This is the extraordinary moment members of 21-strong gang of armed drug dealers who used children to push their cocaine abused a policeman in the street.

One screams at the officer that he is a ‘ fat mutt’ and a ‘rat’ in disturbing footage captured by a Merseyside Police body camera.

He stopped criminals John Mangan, Edward Murphy, and William Summerill – but they were filmed going berserk because they claim to have been to a funeral.

Ringleader Murphy begins to film the officer on his iPhone: ‘I’d advise you officer get back in your car’ as Mangan, 31, repeatedly tells the officer: ‘You’ve stopped us for nothing’.

Murphy then storms off with Summerill, refusing a request by police to stop, shouting: ‘Look at you, you little rat. You little fat mutt. You little rat’

The three men were among a group of gangsters today jailed for a total of 135 years at Liverpool Crown Court.

Kingpin Francis Fearon, 30, who supplied the drugs, and ringleaders Steven Harrison, 28, Jamie Jarvis, 29, and Edward Murphy, 26, were jailed for 11 years and four months at Liverpool Crown Court.

The 17 other top members, aged as young as 16, were sentenced to between 12 months and seven years in prison.

The gang used a network of at least 100 couriers and dealers including children to sell cocaine and used an arsenal of weapons including machine guns and shotguns to scare off rivals.

Henchman William Summerill was trusted with storing drugs in an Anfield safe house and initially avoided arrest in February 2016 after climbing on to a roof.

Police tried to talk him down from the Old Dockers Club on Townsend Lane, Liverpool, in February 2016, but someone in the crowd threw an ‘explosive device’, which witnesses said engulfed them in flames.

The men were caught after a 16-month operation targeting the supply of controlled drugs in Liverpool, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and Devon and Cornwall.

During the course of the operation over 100 people were arrested and 12kg of high Class A drugs were recovered.

The gang also had a large quantity of guns and ammunition, piles of cash and stolen vehicles taken.

The gang used a system of couriers and dealers – in some cases vulnerable youngsters – to peddle Class A drugs and had associates who stockpiled guns that could be used to scare off rivals.

They employed at least two under 16s to deal their drugs because police would be less suspicious of them.

Detective Superintendent Lee Turner, of Merseyside Police, said: ‘This operation was put into place after members of the public raised concerns about drug dealing in their community.

‘Organised crime groups like this, who deal in the wholesale supply and distribution of controlled drugs, don’t care about the impact that supply of drugs has in their neighbourhoods.

‘These individuals expanded their criminal enterprise by setting up a drug supply network in Lancashire, Devon and Cornwall, North Wales and Manchester.

‘But I would like to reassure the decent members of our communities that Merseyside Police is committed to tackling the supply of drugs and we will continue to proactively tackle criminal gangs who think nothing of flooding the streets with dangerous drugs in order to profit from other people’s misery.

‘When we receive information about drug related crime and gun crime we will act. In relation to drug dealing, we often have to carry out an extensive operation, which can take some months, to gather evidence to ensure that when we get those involved to court the only option available is a prison sentence.

‘We will continue to take action but we cannot do this without the support of the public. We rely on our communities to tell us when there are criminal issues in their area so that we can take positive action and protect our communities. Any information supplied to us in relation to serious and organised crime will be acted upon.’

Anyone with information about those involved in serious and organised crime, including the supply of controlled drugs and use of firearms, can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
